The key to understanding weight loss is that you need to burn more calories than you are consuming. This does not mean that you should drastically reduce the amount of calories you consume as this will lead to a slower metabolism and can also have negative side effects for your overall health since you are depriving yourself of important nutrients necessary to function properly.
Creating a higher metabolism:
Developing a higher metabolism is very important if you want to lose the most weight and the best way to increase metabolism is through leading a very active lifestyle and doing plenty of exercise. There are two types of exercises that you can consider and they are aerobic exercise and strength training. Both are necessary and important if you want to get the best results possible. Aerobic exercise can be done in many different ways including jogging, a brisk paced walk, running on a treadmill indoors, biking and many other activities. You can even take up a sport like golf or tennis and this can also give you a great aerobic exercise workout.
You want to maintain a good level of intensity during your aerobic exercise workouts and keep your heart rate around the 120 - 140 beats per minute range for around 30 to 45 minutes. You should develop at least a light sweat by the end of the workout as this is a sign that you got a decent level of exercise. Remember that weight training is also of importance when it comes to weight loss as it contributes to increasing metabolism and making the burning of calories much easier. Even if you find exercising with weights difficult you can still do basic weight training exercises like the dumbbell curl or squat as these are fairly simple for most people.
